Cosmetic and Restorative procedures

At Butler Dental we offer an instant in chair whitening procedure or a take home whitening system.

The take home system is a very simple and effective way to brighten up your smile. Custom made whitening trays are fabricated to fit your dentition and professional whitening gel is inserted into them.

These are then worn overnight or for a few hours for about a week or so. Every day you will notice your teeth gradually becoming lighter, allowing you to tailor your whitening to the result that you are happy with.

Veneers are thin porcelain or ceramic facings that are bonded to teeth. Veneers can change the shape, shade or position of your teeth.

Tooth whitening is the first port of call in changing the shade of your teeth and this can be used in conjunction with veneer placements if suitable.

It is important to us that we discuss your expectations before and during the treatment planning stage to accommodate your needs. The smile you wish to achieve is a subjective issue and your input and feedback is valuable to ensure a successful treatment outcome.

When a tooth is heavily restored with a filling, ultimately this is a weakened tooth. This tooth can therefore be prone to fractures. A crown is recommended for such cases, where it acts as a full coverage shell over the weakened tooth structure protecting it from cracking.

Crowns can be made in a variety of materials. We will discuss the pros, cons of each option and cost involved.

A dental implant can be thought of as an artificial tooth root that is submerged into the jaw bone. Implants alleviate the problems of loose or embarrassing dentures and do not necessitate damaging the adjacent teeth to fix bridges.

Adequate healthy bone must be available to support the implant and the oral environment should be free of any uncontrolled disease.

Dental implants can either be used as a single unit to replace one missing tooth, or as multiple units to replace more than one tooth or can be used under a full denture to anchor the denture and stop it from moving around.

A bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth (or several teeth) by joining an artificial tooth permanently to adjacent teeth or dental implants. It is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap. These two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth with a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Two types of dentures are available: complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.
